Non-climacteric Royal Pomâ„¢ pomegranates are taste-tested for ripeness in the orchard and do not ripen further after picking, so when you choose a pomegranate in-store, it is ready to eat. To buy the juiciest, sweet pomegranates for eating, choose unblemished fruit that is heavy for its size.


The larger the fruit, the better developed and sweeter the flesh inside. If it feels heavy in the hand, it will have plenty of juice.

For decorating, choose fruit for its colour, size and unblemished appearance.

Fresh, unopened pomegranates can last for many weeks, even months, when kept in a non-humid environment. Refrigeration is optional. Once opened, it is best to consume pomegranates are best eaten immediately to prevent them losing moisture in the fridge.

Store fresh arils in the fridge in a sealed plastic container for up to two weeks. Frozen arils will last many months in the freezer. To freeze, spread arils on a baking tray lined with baking paper, and place in the freezer for several hours until frozen. Then transfer to a snaplock plastic bag or container. Enjoy at your leisure.

Pomegranate juice can also be frozen and used later. Simply halve the fruit, juice in a citrus juicer and pour into iceblocks. Once set, add to cold beverages for an exotic drink.
